Black History Month 2022 – 12 Black Women’s Health Organizations

Around the world, Black mothers tend to fare worse than white women when it comes to birth and pregnancy outcomes. The high pregnancy-related mortality rate of Black women led a group of reproductive justice activists to the create Black Mamas Matter Alliance (BMMA).
BMMA is a Black women-led group that works to close the care gap when it comes to Black maternal-fetal health through advocacy, research, and education.
BMMA’s mission: to create a world in which Black mothers have the rights, resources, and respect they need to thrive during pregnancy.
Services offered: In addition to a toolkit for advocates concerned about the well-being of Black mothers, BMMA also offers regular regional summits, an annual conference that focuses on education and training, as well as various local events throughout the country for Black Maternal Health Week, which takes place every year from April 11 to 17.
