ATL Mayor Dickens, APD, DOT to hold press conference on busy upcoming week in city

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum, Atlanta Fire Chief Rod Smith, Atlanta Department of Transportation Commissioner Solomon Caviness IV, Executive Director of the College Football Playoff Rich Clark, and others will take part in a press conference at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Along with a number of events scheduled around the city for the annual celebration and observance of the life of native son, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on his birthday, Wednesday, Jan. 15, and on his national holiday, Monday, Jan. 20, there will be thousands of visitors making their way to Atlanta for other events. The College Football Playoff Championship Game between two of the country’s larger fan bases, Notre Dame and The Ohio State University, is scheduled to take place on Monday as well.
The press conference will address public safety preparations ahead of the following week’s events in the wake of the tragedy in New Orleans on New Year’s Day. The domestic terrorist attack in New Orleans took place on the same day the Sugar Bowl was scheduled to take place in the Caesars Superdome. Thousands of people from the state of Georgia were in town to support the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl.
