Beyoncé makes history with country album win at GRAMMYs

Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter became the first Black woman to win Best Country Album honors in GRAMMYs history. She won the award for her album, “Cowboy Carter”, which was released in March 2024.

Beyoncé was presented the award by Taylor Swift, who won the 2010 award for Fearless.

“Wow, I really was not expecting this,” Beyoncé says after hugging Taylor Swift. “Wow, I wanna thank God — Oh my God! — that I’m able to still do what I love after so many years Oh my God!”

Beyoncé is the most nominated artist of the night with four of her 11 nominations this year coming in the country categories: Best Country Album, Best Country Song (“Texas Hold ‘Em”), Best Country Solo Performance (“16 Carriages”) and Best Country duo-group performance (“II Most Wanted,” with Miley Cyrus). Beyoncé and Cyrus won the award tonight for Best Country Duo-Group performance.

Beyoncé was also nominated in pop categories (with “Bodyguard” and “Levii’s Jeans”) as well as Americana (with “Ya Ya”) and melodic rap (“Spaghettii”).

Beyoncé beat out other nominees Post Malone with F-1 Trillion, Kacey Musgraves with Deeper Well, Chris Stapleton with Higher and Lainey Wilson with Whirlwind.

“I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album,” Beyoncé adds. “We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes genre is a code word to keep us in our place as artists, and I just want to encourage people to do what they’re passionate about, and to stay persistent. Wow, I’d like to thank my beautiful family, all of the artists that were collaborators … Thank you! This wouldn’t have been this album without you. I’d like to thank God again and my fans, and I still am in shock. So thank you so much for this honor.”
