Andre 3000 Visits Middle School for Georgia-Themed Black History Month Presentation

After making surprise cameos at Erykah Badu‘s birthday celebration and L.A. Reid’s recent interview on The Kid Kraddick Morning Show, Andre 3000 also paid a visit to Atlanta’s Dutchtown Middle School to watch the students’ Georgia-themed Black History Month program on Monday (Feb. 29), where one of his relatives performed, reveals a source close to the rapper/actor. 

Designed by Dutchtown teacher Ms. Nikia Moore, the presentation showcased the students’ talents while paying homage to ATL’s rich musical culture.

The program, titled Georgia On My Mind, opened with the school’s chorus singing the James Weldon Johnson melodic poem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” and a multicultural dance number. The production was split into three eras: Oh Freedom (covering the 1700s to the 1940s) which included a performance of “Amazing Grace”; Civil Rights (1950s to 1970s) featuring the chorus’ performance of “Climbin’ Up The Mountain”; and Yes We “All” Can (1980s to 2000s), which closed the ceremony with a segment highlighting the evolution of rap and R&B in Georgia.

One youngster even donned a bow tie and straight-haired wig during the tribute to channel 3 Stacks for a special rendition of the OutKast 2013 chart-topper “Hey Ya!” Performances to tracks by Kris Kross, Ludacris, Bow Wow and Xscape were also incorporated.

As seen in photos above, Andre 3000 (real name Andre Benjamin) also smiled for the cameras for photos alongside Ms. Moore and the students.
